Reclaiming mined, degraded, and abandoned lands for Industrial Agriculture Projects in the Atiwa West District, Eastern Region, Ghana.
In the heart of the Eastern Region of Ghana, the Atiwa West District has long been known for its rich natural beauty and agricultural potential. However, years of mining activities have left large swathes of these lands degraded, abandoned, and unable to support the vibrant ecosystems and productive farms it once nurtured. The scars left behind threaten not only the environment but also the livelihoods of the local communities who depend on the land.
Save Our Lands Projects LBG is leading a transformative initiative to reclaim and revitalize these lands. Our project focuses on restoring the ecological balance through sustainable land reclamation techniques, ensuring that these lands are once again capable of supporting agricultural activities. However, we are not just reclaiming these lands—we are taking it a step further by utilizing these reclaimed lands for industrial agriculture projects across multiple value chains.
By turning these reclaimed lands into hubs for industrial agriculture, we are creating opportunities for large-scale cultivation of key crops such as moringa, maize, cashew, cassava, and oil palm, alongside livestock farming. These activities are designed not only to provide food security for the region but also to create jobs, empower women, and contribute to the local economy. Our approach integrates modern agricultural practices with traditional knowledge, ensuring that the land is used efficiently and sustainably.
This project is more than just an environmental initiative; it is a comprehensive strategy to drive rural development and economic growth. By focusing on industrial agriculture, we are opening new markets for local farmers, improving livelihoods (with special focus on the youth, women, and children), and contributing to the fight against climate change. The integration of these value chains into the project ensures that the benefits of land reclamation extend far beyond environmental restoration, offering long-term economic and social impacts for the people of Atiwa West, the Eastern Region, and the entire country in a long-term vison.
As we reclaim and repurpose these lands, we are setting a precedent for sustainable development in Ghana. This project is a testament to the resilience of the land and the people, proving that with the right approach, even the most degraded environments can be transformed into thriving centers of agricultural and economic activity. Together, we are building a future where the land is once again a source of life, prosperity, and hope.
